Normally we go to museums to see, and in that action we give importance to the eyes or the gaze. However, the eyes are in the head, and the head is part of the body. It seems obvious, but in museums we seem to forget something as obvious as this. In this conference the speaker talks about that: what place do bodies have in museums?

Ane Lekuona Mariskal, Mari Paz Jiménez, bide-erakusle, San Telmo Museoa, 05/05/2021

From a feminist point of view, the speaker reviews the career of the painter María Paz Jiménez (1909-1975). She focuses on the transgression that the artist's works incorporated, as well as her practices. In fact, Jiménez represented racialized women, she was one of the first artists to cultivate abstraction in the Basque scene and entered the intellectual environment of the time, against against the feminine ideal outlined by Franco's regime. However, we will see that due to the masculine roots that the history of art in Euskal Herria has, Jiménez has not received the recognition she deserves.
